Begin by using your soft cloth to wipe down the jewelry, removing surface dirt and grime.  Use a few drops of mild soap and mix it into one bowl of water with the toothbrush. Start by cleaning the back of the jewelry setting behind the opals, this is where dirt tends to build up. Use soft scrubbing motions to gently dislodging the grime within the setting.  Last you can very gently scrub the surface of the opal, and around any prongs.
Next, use the plain water to go back over the jewelry and rinse the dirty, soapy water away. Use your soft cloth to dry the stone and settings! Viola! Clean and lovely Opal jewelry.
